Did You Know These A-List Celebs Have Been Besties Forever?

By lheidi - July 01, 2019

Everyone has a best friend. Even celebrities have a friend who they would consider is the best out of everyone else. Having a celebrity best friend must be extremely amazing. You probably get to go to parties on their private yacht every week, and get all of the designer clothes that they don’t want to wear. Plus, when you’re hanging out at their mansion, you probably drink champagne instead of water and get to play with their pet exotic shark. Where do you sign up to become a celebrity best friend? Is there a website where you can submit yourself or something?

We all know about celebrity relationships. We keep up with who’s dating who like it’s our job. But we don’t keep up with celebrity friendships as much. Who is best friends with who might surprise you. So click on through and see which celebrities have what best friends.

Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire

Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire have known each other since they were just child actors.

Their mothers used to take them to the same auditions, and they would run into each other over and over again.

Now that the two former child actors are grown up actors, they still hang out and have been known to play a game of basketball every now and then. What we wouldn’t give to watch one of those games. They must be intense.

Eddie Redmayne And Prince William

Not everyone can say they’re good friends with the future King of England, but Eddie Redmayne can.

Both Redmayne and Prince William attended Eaton College at the same time (and so did Kate Middleton for that matter).

The two became friends while they were going to the same school. Now, they’re not as close as they used to be, but then again, Prince William is probably pretty busy with the whole “being a monarch and having kids” thing.

Lauryn Hill And Zach Braff

Credits: https://hermoments.com

It seems like Fugees front singer Lauryn Hill and Scrubs star Zach Braff wouldn’t even know each other, but that’s not the case.

The two both grew up in the same town, Maplewood, New Jersey, and know each other from that.

It turns out that Lauryn Hill actually even attended Zach Braff’s bar mitzvah, so these two go way back. Hill was even Braff’s parter in the game “Coke and Pepsi” during Braff’s bar mitzvah. But he didn’t put her in Garden State.

Justin Timberlake And Ryan Gosling

Credits: https://hermoments.com

Sometimes it’s hard to remember that both Ryan Gosling and Justin Timberlake were ever in the Mickey Mouse Club in the 90s.

But the two men met when they were both child actors appearing on the show. They also appeared alongside Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears as well.

During his time on the show, the Canadian Gosling spent a whole year living with Timberlake and his mom. We wonder if the two still keep in touch now?

Brooke Shields And Matt Dillon

Credits: https://hermoments.com

Brooke Shields and Matt Dillon became good friends in the 1980s when they were both young and hot actors.

The two never said that they were dating, and instead insisted that they were only good friends.

They might have never dated in real life, but they definitely dated in the Brooke Shields and Matt Dillon fan fiction that we wrote back in the day and still write. Because people are super into Brooke Shields and Matt Dillon fan fic.

John Krasinski and B.J. Novak

Credits: https://hermoments.com

John Krasinski and B.J. Novak were both on The Office together, but that’s not how these two men met.

Krasinski and Novak actually knew each other from before they were cast in the show. They’re both from the same town, Newton, Massachusetts.

They used to play little league together, and were on the same team. We bet that totally prepared them for the day that they would work on a TV show together as adults, because those experiences are similar.

Tiny Fey And Amy Poehler

Credits: https://hermoments.com

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler go way back. They knew each other before they appeared in Sisters together.

They even knew each other before they were on Saturday Night Live together. Poehler and Fey both met when they were members of the Second City in Chicago.

The two women have been working together on and off since the 1990s, which means that they go way back. Fey was even in Poehler’s directorial debut, Wine Country. They’re women who support women.

Elijah Woods And Macaulay Culkin

Credits: https://hermoments.com

It seems like all child actors know each other, and maybe they do? Macaulay Culkin and Elijah Wood certainly do.

The two met each other when they were working on The Good Son together in 1993, and have been friends ever since.

Although, only one of them appeared in Lord of the Rings, and spoiler alert: it wasn’t the one who appeared in Home Alone. And other spoiler alert: the one who appeared in Home Alone wasn’t Elijah Wood. Guess who it was.

Demi Lovato And Selena Gomez

Credits: https://hermoments.com

Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez are both Disney stars, so you would think that they met at the company Christmas party.

But Lovato and Gomez go back way further than that. Both of the girls appeared on Barney and Friends in the 1990s when they were just girls.

Since then, the two have remained friends while both moving on to successful acting and singing careers. They probably get together and reminisce about all the weird things Barney did off camera, though.

Drew Barrymore And Courtney Love

Credits: https://hermoments.com

We’re surprised to find out that Courtney Love and Drew Barrymore are good friends, but also it makes total sense.

The two both went through wild periods in the 1990s, which you probably remember if you ever picked up a tabloid during the Clinton era.

The two were so close that Barrymore is actually the godmother of Love’s daughter with Kurt Cobain, Frances Bean Cobain. Although, Barrymore did nothing to talk them out of giving her the middle name “Bean.”

Matt Damon And Ben Affleck

Credits: https://hermoments.com

Matt Damon and Ben Affleck are probably the epitome of celebrity best friends. They used to be inseparable.

Damon and Affleck met when they were both in high school together in Cambridge, Massachusetts. They ended up taking Hollywood by storm together.

The two co-wrote Good Will Hunting, for which they both got an Oscar for. The movie was originally a short story that Damon wrote when he was at Harvard. Affleck said it should be a movie, because that’s what friends are for.

Jennifer Aniston And Chaz Bono

Credits: https://hermoments.com

Jennifer Aniston and Chaz Bono both went to the same high school, the LaGuardia High School in New York City, and met then.

The two became good friends, and Aniston used to come over to Bono’s house. Bono’s parents are, of course, legendary duo Sonny and Cher, so it’s not too bad of a house to visit after school.

Although, Aniston’s dad, actor John Aniston, kind of looks like Sony Bono. Google it. We’ll wait. They have similar mustaches.

Maya Rudolph and Gwyneth Paltrow

Credits: https://hermoments.com

Maya Rudolph and Gwyneth Paltrow were friends growing up, but that shouldn’t be too much of a surprise.

Rudolph and Paltrow’s dads were also friends in college, so it only makes sense that their daughters would eventually hang out together.

Both Rudolph and Paltrow went to the same schools when they were girls. Now, they’re all grown up and all rich and famous. Only one of them ended up dating Brad Pitt, though, but we won’t tell you which one.

Amanda Seyfried and Mae Whitman

Credits: https://hermoments.com

Amanda Seyfried is actually three years older than Mae Whitman, but the two are still good friends despite the age gap, which really isn’t that much.

Both actresses knew each other when they were girls, and formed a friendship during their childhoods.

So wait, do all actors know each other or something? Is there a club that you join once you become famous where you meet every other person who is famous? Because it seems like everyone knows everyone.

Brad Pitt and Christina Applegate

Credits: https://hermoments.com

Brad Pitt and Christina Applegate are friends, and it’s not because they had a similar hair thing going at one point.

The two have known each other since they were teenagers, and met right around the time when Applegate got cast on Married with Children.

Pitt and Applegate even went to the MTV Movie Awards together in 1989. The two probably went together only as friends, because Applegate left the event with someone else. Putt must have been crushed.

Paris Hilton And Nicole Richie

Credits: https://hermoments.com

You couldn’t move in the early aughts without seeing the exploits of Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie, two young and fabulous rich girls.

Their friendship was both seen and exploited on their reality show The Simple Life.

Hilton and Richie were friends since they were little, but eventually had a falling out when they were older. It was all over the tabloids, and we’ll never really know if it’s over or not. We hope for their sake that it is.

Nicolas Cage and Sean Penn

Credits: https://hermoments.com

We can’t imagineNicolas Cage and Sean Penn being friends with anyone, except for, oddly enough, each other.

The two actors met when they were filming Racing With the Moon in 1984. Apparently, Penn told Cage that he wasn’t an actor when they were on set. Technically, Penn’s not wrong.

Apparently, Cage got over it, because Penn and Cage have been friends ever since. Maybe it’s because their last names are actually synonyms for something you keep an animal inside of?

Naomi Watts and Nicole Kidman

Credits: https://hermoments.com

Not only are Naomi Watts and Nicole Kidman both Australian, they’re also both friends, on top of it.

Kidman and Watts met in Australia when they were auditioning for a bikini commercial. Neither of them got the job, but they did get a friendship out of it, so it was worth it.

Apparently, they both commiserated over how much they hated having to wait for the audition while wearing swimsuits, feeling embarrassed. It all worked out in the end.

Wes Anderson and Owen Wilson

Credits: https://hermoments.com

Wes Anderson and Owen Wilson go way back. And in fact, in this photo, Anderson looks like he could be a fourth Wilson brother. (Yes, there are three).

Anderson and Wilson met while they were attending the University of Texas at Austin together.

The two collaborated on the movie Bottle Rockets in 1996, which solidified the two as a creative duo and not just friends. Wilson has appeared and c0-written many of Anderson’s movies since their days back in Austin, Texas.

Liv Tyler and Kate Hudson

Credits: https://hermoments.com

Liv Tyler and Kate Hudson both have famous parents, so we can only imagine what lives they’ve had.

Tyler is the daughter of Aerosmith singer Stephen Tyler, and Hudson is the daughter of Goldie Hawn. The two actresses went to school together.

They also appeared in a movie together. Both were in Dr. T and the Women, which you’ve probably never heard of. But at least you’ve heard of Liv Tyler and Kate Hudson, and that’s what matters at the end of the day.
